Interesting in-possession game plan shown by Netherlands 🇳🇱 during the first half against France 🇫🇷. Key points:- Right hand-side progression through de Vrij- Schouten’s functional positioning to attract Tchouameni and disable him to track Depay’s in between the lines drops which are key for Koeman’s side- Creating 4v3 in the middle through Memphis who’s constantly moving around the CB (Saliba) in order to draw him out of the position- Creating more space for in-behind runs for Simons and Frimpong - that’s why Frimpong has started the game. Against Poland 🇵🇱 in the first round, it was clear that Netherlands 🇳🇱 would not have many situations to attack large spaces and exploit his running and pace qualities, completely opposite to this game, where it’s been a key part of the game planNetherlands should be more brave in performing this type of ball progression, as they’ve skipped some opportunities for that, especially during the last 5-10 minutes of the first half, mainly due to aim to reduce mistakes

There's a lot of talk about football ideologies nowadays. Maybe we're at a turning point now, but maybe we're not. The matter of the ideological issue has long since become a global phenomenon, but more and more a globally established opinion, which had a lot of influence on our Serbian football. Mainly because we've decided to accept an external influence that is not complementary to our people and our national context. I have written in detail about why and where we are wrong in the football ideological approach and why we need a change in the way of understanding how have to construct the national football enthusiasm, in order to create something we've never defined - a football identity built in an authentic way and on the foundations of the Serbian people and the Serbian national context. If we build our identity by adopting other people's norms, the results we achieve will be variable, as they have been for a very long time now. We should look at ourselves and find solutions for our own problems, and not to follow some other's path.https://lnkd.in/d8FuSJtv

Identity is not adopted from outside, it is sought and formed in the roots medium.com

Serbia showed some defensive transition problems during the game against Lithuania. It was not the first time to see Serbia's behind the ball structure and counter-pressing issues, as they could be seen during the World Cup, as well. During the first EURO2024 qualifying match against Lithuania, Serbia had problems to protect far-side half-space corridor, providing a lot of free area for opponents to exploit and arrive at, as well as they had problems to counter-press properly, mainly due to the distances, individual tendencies and positions. In the video below, I've also provided some solutions for how to potentially solve problems and organize behind the ball structure in better, in order to protect exploitive areas.

My recent article about Lazar Samardžić - newest member of the Serbian National teamA bit specific and atypical player. Combinative, Interactively-oriented, spontaneous, comfortable to roam on the pitch and connect with teammates and the ball. Quite good distributor and excellent shooter, as well as set-piece taker. https://lnkd.in/dAc_iiGf

Pre-rotations during offensive throw-ins to change offensive angles, release pressure, provide free man and potentially progressive U-pass ball circulation.Erik ten Hag used these ideas during his time at Ajax and he's implemented it at Manchester United. It still seems that United could exploit those situations a bit better, especially in moments when they transfer the ball to opposite side. Dynamics, timings and counter movements could be better in order to achieve progression, but main thing about releasing the pressure and providing space for organizing ball progression directly from the throw-in has already been on a good level.

Since he's arrived at the club, Wout Weghorst has become one of Manchester United's most important players. He's scored only goal until know, but his team contribution is of great importance for team and thus teammates. Some of them, like Bruno Fernandes, publicly spoke about Weghorst's impact. Fernandes once said: ''As a striker, you always want to score goals but he's doing his job, doing a lot of runs that we need, the pressure that we need...''Weghorst is all about that. Excellent presser (ranked 3rd for most number of pressures since he's arrived at Premier League), off the ball runner both inside and outside the box. I'd also say there's a lot about his mentality - he's team-oriented player, constantly active, energetic, passionate and prepared to give all of his qualities for the team success. In the video below, I showed his:- Defensive abilities, responsibility, defensive awareness, excellent work rate; dropping into his own box to help teammates to deal with crosses, individual pressing runs, second balls attacking, defensive transition reactions and back runs- Distribution qualities - ability to send through passes from deeper areas- Link-up qualities; appearing in between the lines to connect with teammates, combine and play one-touch football- Offensive transition link-up qualities - ability to lay-off the ball and connect frontally-oriented teammate with the ball, appearing as deepest option to break opponent's counter-pressing - Creating the depth ability - dropping towards the ball and dragging opponents out of their positions- Off the ball movements - opening passing lanes to the teammates, blindside runs to draw opponents and make separations and more space for others- Off the ball movements inside the box - creating spaces for teammates arrive late

One of my favorite things - United's back runs and back tracking + covering different cutback cross zones, and covering FBs with excellent and aggressive 1v1 CBs (Varane, Lisandro Martinez)
