The other day someone said something to me and it has me totally thinking about my parenting. Like I’m watching my own parenting now with a microscope.

It’s annoying.

It’s made me question if I’m patient enough with my kiddos. If I am too strict. You know, fun stuff.

I was talking about it with a friend the other day and she said, “Lisa. You are a good mom. It’s the end of summer vacation. You CANNOT judge your parenting based on right now. Give it a solid two weeks before you even think about it again.”

So smart. It’s important to keep smart friends around. The good news is that I’ve been a lot more patient with my kids, which I think they kind of needed as they struggle with the end of summer and mixed feelings about going back to school. The bad news is that patience is hard guys, lol. And usually it means by the end of the day I need a nice glass of . . . you know, anything.

TURNING CARAMEL APPLES INTO SANGRIA

Enter my new best friend, Caramel Apple Sangria. Because you know that I don’t just do caramel apples as a caramel apple. I do Caramel Apple Poke Cake. I do Caramel Apple Cobbler. I do Caramel Apple Milkshake. And now this! You guys, it’s so good. I “tested” the various ratio options when it comes to the liquor you put in this, deciding just how much caramel vodka and just how much apple liquor was needed to make the most caramely appley taste and we have a winner, friends!

FOUR INGREDIENT CARAMEL APPLE SANGRIA

And did I mention that this is only four ingredients? Awesome, right? So if you lose your patience with your kids, you are only four ingredients away from Caramel Apple Sangria. A few sips and then reset.

And you know what? Losing your patience with your kids is just a good lesson in teaching them humility. You just apologize and they get a good life lesson. And you get sangria. Win – win.

print pin it rate

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup caramel vodka
  • 1 cup apple liquor see note
  • 750 ml white wine I used a sparkling white
  • 2 green apples cut up see note

Instructions

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a large pitcher.

  • Chill and serve.

Notes

If you decide to double this recipe, and I really think that you should, you don't need to double the number of apples in it. It will still be delicious with two.

I used Apple Pucker, but there are lots of great apple liquors on the market and any will do!

Going to try making this for Saturday. How far in advance can you make it, especially if using sparkling white? Thanks!

I honestly would make it right before the party, because the apples won’t hold up.

You keep mentioning sparkling white barefoot and several comments have tried to narrow you down on which barefoot. There are so many. Barefoot what? Prosecco? Be specific please.
    Thank you.

It is literally a sparkling white from Barefoot brand. It’s possible that they don’t sell it anymore. Any sweet white will work great in this though. And if the end result isn’t sweet enough you can add a little simple syrup or apple juice.

Could someone who actually made this comment instead of “I CAN’T WAIT TO MAKE THIS”. why do people make those comments? Not helpful at all. No one cares if you PLAN to make it.

Hi Jo! I’m sorry you haven’t seen comments from people who have actually made it. I 100% get that frustration. You want to know it’s good before you invest in the ingredients. I have received comments on social media from people who have loved this recipe if that is helpful at all. That said, I actually love hearing from my readers, no matter what they have to say. And often it is just them telling me they are excited.

Is it ok to mix the apples with “FRESH FRUIT” to keep them from browning as I would like to mix this 1 day before serving?

I’m not sure Sandi, I’ve never used that. If you try it let me know how it goes!

Just made a double pitcher of this caramel apple sangria for dinner guests tonight and it is gone! It was so easy to make, it was light, not overly sweet and absolutely delicious. I used salted caramel vodka because I just happened to have it on hand. We also used Barefoot Moscato Spumante sparkling wine. This recipe is a definite keeper! Thank you for sharing!

FAQs

What are the basic ingredients in sangria? ›

What fruit to add to bottled sangria? ›

Diced apples are also commonly found in sangria and once they soak up all of the wine, they make a delicious, boozy snack! You can also throw in fresh or frozen berries, diced pears or grapes. You're basically making “wine punch” here, so feel free to toss in any of your favorite fruits!

Do you eat the apples in sangria? ›

I suppose you could peel the oranges or the apple, if you really dislike the thought of the skins being left on. But, you definitely don't have to. It's a huge time-saver, and you can still eat the fruit pieces, if you choose. I love this traditional red sangria recipe because it's super easy to make and not too sweet.

Do you eat fruits in sangria? ›

Whether you are one of those who choose to nibble on some fruit or not, there is no doubt that the sliced fruit served with the Sangria soaks up the flavors and is delicious to eat!

How much alcohol is usually in sangria? ›

EU law says bottles from Spain are limited by law to less than 12% alcohol by volume (ABV). Bottles produced in the U.S. usually have between 5% and 15%. Sangria made with red wine is usually stronger than white wine punches.

What is the best wine for sangria? ›

The best wine for sangria is Garnacha (also called Grenache) or Pinot Noir. Garnacha comes from Spain, so it's my top pick for authentic Spanish sangria! Choose an inexpensive wine (under $20) that you would enjoy on its own. Why Garnacha and Pinot Noir?

Is fresh or frozen fruit better for sangria? ›

Fresh fruit is ideal, but to serve this drink year-round, you can substitute frozen. Lemon-lime soda: Lemon-lime soda adds citrus flavor and a hint of bubbles to the sangria. Sugar: You'll use a small amount of granulated sugar in this recipe.

Can you leave fruit in sangria overnight? ›

The Overnight Resting Period Is Important!

This lets the fruit infuse the wine, letting its juices get in the mix and sweeten up the drink.

How long can you leave fruit in sangria? ›

The rule of thumb for sangria preparation is to let the fruit pieces marinate in the alcoholic base while in the refrigerator for about 12 to 24 hours. This allows the fruits enough time to soak up and infuse their flavor into the wine.

How far in advance should I make sangria? ›

I let mine chill for at least 8 hours before serving, or overnight for the best flavor. Taste and adjust. Whenever you're making a co*cktail at home, be sure to taste and adjust it to your liking. If you prefer a sweeter sangria, add an extra splash of orange juice or a little maple syrup.

How long does homemade sangria last? ›

Sangria will last for about three to five days in the refrigerator if stored in an airtight container. It will only last for a day or two if stored in the pitcher covered with storage wrap, so we recommend moving it to an airtight container if you don't plan on drinking it all within two days.

Can you add fruit to premade sangria? ›

Anything slightly tart would work beautifully. Citrus fruits are an obvious choice (orange, lemon, lime slices) with fruit such as apples (Granny Smiths are nice for the colour contrast) or even pears balancing things out nicely.

How do you drink store bought sangria? ›

Chill your sangria and doctor it up a bit.

Both of my winners should be chilled ahead of time. Additionally, I think these are best over ice with a squeeze of citrus. Adding some acidity and real fruit flavor really helps fill out the rest of the fruit picture and make these beverages taste a little fresher.

Is sangria stronger than wine? ›

If you're new to the sangria scene, you might wonder, "Is sangria stronger than wine?" Not necessarily. While sangria contains wine and often brandy, the addition of fruit and optional soda or sparkling wine dilutes the alcohol, making it a relatively mild, fruity beverage.

What is white wine and orange juice called? ›

Mimosas are such a classic brunch co*cktail! They are ridiculously easy to make, and I have shared a few tips below, including making them for a party, the best wine to buy, and my favorite orange juice to use.

Is sangria a wine or drink? ›

Sangria's popularity in the wine section of shops and restaurants might have you wondering “is sangria wine?” Well, sangria isn't a type of wine per say, but it is a delicious wine-based beverage that emphasizes wine's delicious fruit-forward elements.

Does sangria contain orange juice? ›

Method. Mix all the ingredients together in a large jug and add more red wine, orange juice or lemonade according to taste and desired strength. Pour into glasses, garnish with mint sprigs and fruit.
