Did Rias betray Issei? ›

{Highschool DxD x Monster Hunter} After Issei saved Rias from Riser, he was betrayed by his lover and master Rias Gremory resulting on killing him including his only family and sister figure Asia.

Kurenai Himejima is the first-born child of Issei Hyoudou, making him the oldest sibling, if Ophis is discounted. His mother is Akeno Himejima, from whom he inherits a lot of his powers.

In Volume 22, Rias was there to allow Issei to be promoted to High-Class devil, during the ritual in which she placed the crown on his head, which made Issei a King. Later, the two become engaged when Issei proposes to Rias after her graduation ceremony, making her his first bride.

Rias is the main love interest of the main character, Issei Hyoudou. Rias is a high school student at Kuoh Academy, which, unbeknownst to most students, contains angels, devils, and fallen angels as part of its student population.

Rias actually offers to help Issei overcome his trauma, but he refuses. In Chapter 35, Issei betrays the ORC, revealing that his attack on the Gremory Residence was planned for the sole reason of Issei being defeated and becoming a Devil. He kills Rias soon afterwards.

In Volume 25, while celebrating at the Hyoudou residence, following the defeat of Vidar, the girls (Asia, Xenovia, Irina, Akeno, Kuroka, Koneko, Rossweisse, and Rias) tell Issei to show his love for them which he does and tells them that every one of them is his bride.

At the end of their first date, Yuma asks Issei to die for her sake and reveals herself as Raynare, a fallen angel. After Raynare kills Issei, he sees a vision of Rias. Assuming the incident to be a dream, he resumes his normal life.

In Volume 22, upon Issei's promotion to High-Class Devil, Xenovia is traded from Rias to Issei, and she becomes his first official Knight. In Volume 23, when Xenovia made a proposal to have him take her as his bride, Issei accepts, making her his third bride.

The final episode of High School DxD aired in 2018 and given that the source material (which mostly continued in the form of spinoffs) is now complete, there's little demand beyond the most diehard fans for a continuation.
