The title of this cookbook really appealed to me. I mean, recipes from someone’s Nana? They would have to be wonderful, right? But these aren’t all the made from scratch recipes that my Mommom made. Several of the recipes included take help from per-packaged items. However, I don’t find that this has to be a negative thing. For days when you can’t spend a lot of time preparing your meal, there’s nothing wrong with store bought help.

My main disappointment with NANA’S FAMILY COOKBOOK is the lack of photos. I’m sure for smaller press or self-published cookbooks it’s more expensive to include photos, but out of the forty recipes in this book, it would have been nice to have a few to reference.

Some of the recipes you’ll find in this cookbook are . . . Maw Maw’s Blueberry Muffins, Hannie’s Avocado Toast, Crab Dip, Cole Slaw Salad, Porcupine Meatballs, Crawfish Chowder, Chocolate Chip Pound Cake, Mississippi Mud Pie, and over 30 more.

NANA’S FAMILY COOKBOOK does come in print, but I picked my Kindle copy for free!

Nana's Family Cookbook: Our Most Loved Family Recipes by Hannie P. Scott
Book starts out with table of contents and recipes are broken up into meal categories.
A short introduction, abbreviations used, conversions used.
Each recipe starts with a title and servings and a short summary of the dish.
Ingredients are listed and you should be able to substitute for your healthier dietary needs: low fat, low sodium, etc.
Directions are included. There are NO pictures. There is no nutritional information.
Didn't really see anything I'd want to make as some are fried in oils or use pre packaged ingredients.

Short sweet and with some nice recipes with short descriptions of them. I figure I will get my use out of this one.

Old fashioned, regular, and delicious recipes . . . .

Title:
Old fashioned, regular, and delicious recipes . . . .

Like the other cookbooks I ve reviewed, this is full of delicious sounding recipes. Thankfully, I can t gain weight just by reading the recipes. As always, she has history behind each recipe, and absolutely no nutritional references. The recipes are good and if you require how each recipe breaks down to each gram of value, you ll be disappointed.

Summary

Very easy to follow. None of the dishes required ingredients not in a good pantry. Many K had already tried but still found some interesting different things to add to my version of some recipes think it deserves a
4 for simplicity good cooking. A good one for beginner cooks

I really enjoyed this cookbook. It has all types of recipes requiring all types of ingredients. I have not actually tried any of them yet, however they seem very appealing. I plan on picking up items to make the Biscuits & Gravy, Taco Soup, Shrimp & Grits and Aunt Judy's pecan pie cake. If you enjoy cooking, a simple cookbook like this can be a valuable asset.

So many great recipes

This is a book I know I will be using in the kitchen. Lots of great recipes, some from the bisquick recipe book, but good nonetheless. This is a must have for of fashioned just like Granny made meals.

SOUTHERN WAYS

Interesting recipes and directions. Some of the recipes have different ingredients added, which I would differ with but, It's always interesting to read the different ways southern foods are prepared..not bad..

Nice recipes – typical, I would believe, of what most families eat on a daily basis. Pictures would have made it better! Was easy to understand but I didn’t find anything that was really much different then anything I already have! It did include a new free cookbook.

Not my style

Easy, comfort food. But a lot of these recipes have other, better versions. Uses a lot of cake mixes, or canned soups. Not a style of cooking I like. Might be good for young families.

Not home made recipes

I thought it advertised as home made recipes it is a lot of prepackaged items blended. Not what I was looking for.
