Vicks Shower Bomb Recipe

Supplies 1/2 cup of Baking Soda

1 cup of cornstarch

5 tablespoons of Vicks vaporub (Can use baby Vicks for a more gentle smell)

Add a teaspoon of water as your see fit. (I did 3)

First start by getting your bowl and add in your corn starch. Now add in your Vicks and mix it around until well combined. This will be strong smelling so maybe wear gloves if your sensitive or open a window. Now add in your baking soda and mix well. IF you find you need more moisture add a tea spoon at a time but do not over do it or it won't form right. Then mold the mixture into your ice cube tray to other molding tray. Then you will want to freeze it for a few hours. Take out and pop them out of the molds. You can place then into small jars for yourself or use them as gifts.

All you do then is place one in the shower with you near the drain and let is fill your shower and hopefully clear your nose.

– note- I used a chocolate mold tray I got from the craft store but you can buy many great ones from Amazon.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do you make shower bombs?

The basic process involves mixing baking soda with essential oils and water to create a paste that holds its shape when squeezed. This mixture is then pressed into molds and allowed to dry completely, which can take from 12 to 48 hours. Once dry, the bombs are stored in an airtight container.

What if my shower bombs are crumbly?

If your shower bombs turn out crumbly, it might be due to insufficient liquid in the mixture. Unfortunately, there's not much that can be done with the current batch in such a case, but you can adjust the amount of liquid in future batches.

4. How can I make the scent stronger?

To enhance the scent, you can add more essential oil during the making process or apply a few drops to the bomb before use. The way you store the shower bombs also affects the scent's longevity; they should be kept at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, in an airtight container.

Can I add color to my shower bombs?

Yes, you can use pigmented mica powder to add color. Typically, about 1/4 teaspoon is added to the baking soda and citric acid mixture.

How long do shower steamers last in the shower?

Positioning is key. Place the steamer in a corner where it's not directly hit by water, which allows it to last throughout a short shower.

What is the shelf life of homemade shower bombs?

They generally retain their scent for about 6 months. It's advisable to use them within this timeframe for optimal fragrance.

Can shower bombs be used as bath bombs?

No, shower bombs are designed for showers and would dissolve too quickly in a bathtub. They are meant for aromatherapy in the shower and not for direct skin contact like bath bombs.

Are there kid-safe options?

Yes, for kid-safe options, avoid using essential oils with high camphor content like eucalyptus and peppermint. Instead, use a blend of lemon eucalyptus, spearmint, and pine essential oils.

How do you use shower melts?

Place them away from direct water flow, ideally where only the bottom gets wet. Breathe in deeply as the essential oils vaporize into the air. They usually last for one or two showers, depending on their position and the shower duration.
